On Sunday 20th May the Club staged a Fun Day at Lumville House Hotel near to The Curragh in Co Kildare.  The committee were keen to include all members; this was a fun day with something for everybody.  The weather was perfect and the attendance of members and their families was in excess of 70.  It was most encouraging to see so many youngsters taking part in the day’s wide ranging activities with such enthusiasm, particularly the face painting.
There were demonstrations of trimming ably carried out by Sandra Whelan and the demonstration of ringcraft given by Katherina Savage and Mairead Cummins and compered by Des Glynn was watched with great interest – the kids really enjoyed this so much that upwards of thirty entered the various classes in the Match.   The kids handling classes were very popular in fact many of the dogs had to make multiple appearances in the ring to cater for the demand.  Many or the participants had never been in the ring before but the standard of handling was excellent which gave judge Michael Hegarty a hard job to pick his winners  A very interesting talk on first aid, followed by a question and answer session, was given by vet Peter O’Connell.  The “guess the name of the dog” competition was very popular as was the raffle with its lovely prizes.
Club President Maudie Burke presented Michael Hegarty and Peter O’Connell with small tokens of the Club’s appreciation for giving up their time.
The day was so successful that it will certainly be repeated in the future, in the meantime it will be good to see some of the new members becoming more active in the breed and the Club’s activities.

Photographs of the most enjoyable day can be seen (click here)

November 2006: Condolences are extended to the Brouder Family following the death of Michael, husband of Caroline.
